Root Your Android Phone quickly and easily

Android rooting opens up a world of possibility, but it can also void your warranty, or even leave you with a bricked device. The important thing is to be careful. Read up about what you are going to do before you begin. Make sure that you backup your data. Follow the instructions to the letter. Manufacturers and carriers have a vested interest in dissuading you from rooting. If you’re careful, the risk is minimal, and the potential benefits are impressive. Let’s take a closer look.

How To Root Your Android Phone ?

What is rooting?

If you’re an Administrator on a Windows machine, you have access to the entire operating system and you can do whatever you like. That’s essentially what happens if you root your Android device. With root access, you can get around any restrictions that your manufacturer or carrier may have applied. You can run more apps; you can customise your device to a greater degree; and you can potentially speed it up in a variety of ways.

The process involves backing up your current software and then flashing (installing) a new custom ROM (modified version of Android).

Why would you root?

One of the most obvious incentives to root your Android device is to rid yourself of the bloatware that’s impossible to uninstall. You’ll be able to set up wireless tethering, even if it has been disabled by default. You can also access your entire file system, install special apps that require a root, and flash custom ROMs, which can add extra features and streamline your phone or tablet’s performance. A lot of people are tempted by the ability to completely customise the look of their phones. You can also manually accept or deny app permissions.

You won’t find a lot of amazing must-have apps when you root, but there are enough to make it worthwhile. For example, some apps allow you to automatically backup all of your apps and all of their data, completely block advertisements, create secure tunnels to the Internet, over clock your processor, or make your device a wireless hotspot.

Top 10 Reasons to Root Your Android Phone:

1. Truly Own Your Device
2. Flash a Custom ROM
3. Flash a Custom Kernel
4. Tweak the Dark Corners of Android
5. Remove Preinstalled Crapware
6. Back Up Your Phone for Seamless Transitions
7. Block Ads in Any App
8. Boost Your Phone's Speed and Battery Life
9. Automate Everything
10. Unlock Hidden Features and Install "Incompatible" Apps

Why wouldn’t you root?

There are essentially three potential cons to rooting your Android.

Voiding your warranty: Some manufacturers or carriers will use rooting as an excuse to void your warranty. It’s worth keeping in mind that you can always unroot. If you need to send the device back for repair, simply flash the original backup ROM you made and no one will ever know that it was rooted.
Bricking your phone: Whenever you tamper too much, you run at least a small risk of bricking your device. This is the big fear everyone has. The obvious way to avoid it happening is to follow instructions carefully. Make sure that the guide you are following works for your device and that any custom ROM you flash is designed specifically for it. If you do your research and pay attention to feedback from others, bricking should never occur.
Security risks: Rooting may introduce some security risks. Depending on what services or apps you use on your device, rooting could create a security vulnerability. For example, Google refuses to support the Google Wallet service for rooted devices.

How to root your Android:

Before you actually try to root your device, make sure that you do some reading. The best place to find discussions about rooting, guides, and custom ROMs is definitely the XDA Developers Forum. Look for a thread on your specific device and you’re sure to find a method that has worked for other people. It’s worth spending some time researching the right method for your device.

Preparation for root:

You’ll want to ensure that your device is fully charged before you begin. You’ll also need to turn USB debugging on. On the Galaxy S3 you’ll find it in Menu > Settings > Developer options and then check the box next to USB debugging. You will likely be plugging your device into your computer in order to root it.

Most Android rooting methods require you to install some software on your computer. It’s likely you’ll need to install the Android SDK. You may find other software is required. Make sure you follow the instructions and install all of it before proceeding.

One-click rooting:

One of the easiest methods of rooting, which also supports a long list of devices, is SuperOneClick. You’ll find clear instructions, including a video, on how to use it at this
XDA Developers SuperOneClick thread.

You will need to install some software to prepare, but the actual rooting process is one click. It will only take a few minutes to complete and then you’ll need to restart your Android device.

There is software out there that claims to provide one click rooting with no extra installs, but you should not have to pay to root your device and it’s very important to be wary about the method you choose. If in doubt, do more research. The XDA Developers forum is the most trustworthy source for rooting guides.

Your specific device:

The reason rooting isn’t more straightforward is that all Android devices are not created equal. There are significant differences between Android smartphones, between manufacturers, and even between carrier specific versions of the same phone model. Make sure that any rooting guide or custom ROM you intend to use does support your specific device or you are asking for trouble.

Once you have found the right guide for your phone or tablet, it’s simply a case of working through the listed steps methodically. It can be a complicated procedure and it can take a while. Here’s an example guide for rooting the Samsung Galaxy S3. It can appear intimidating at first glance, but provided you follow it step-by-step, it should be a pain-free process. You can post questions in the XDA Developers forum if you run into trouble.

To root or not to root:

Gaining full root access to your Android device can be thrilling, especially if you want to tinker with settings and customise your device. How much it changes your experience depends largely on the device you have. If you have a shuttered device, like a Kindle Fire tablet, then it’s a great way to get the full Android experience.

The potential benefits for all Android users include improved battery life, root-only apps, custom ROMs, over clocking, an end to bloatware, improved performance, and the ability to upgrade your phone when you want. If you aren’t excited at the prospect of any of these things, rooting probably isn’t for you.

Download Tools For Hackers

Hacking tools are developed by some really good coders out there to ease out many complex tasks which have to be done manually and took painstakingly great deal of time and effort. All these tools provided here are free of cost, are tried hands on and are being actively developed by community, and if not, their alternatives are provided. To summarise it up, these are the 7 must have tools for every hacker out there.

Top 7 Tools For Every Hacker:

1. Nmap:

I think everyone has heard of this one, Nmap (Network Mapper) is a free open source utility for network exploration or security auditing. It was designed to Nmap rapidly scan large networks, although it works fine against single hosts. Many systems and network administrators also find it useful for tasks such as network inventory, managing service upgrade schedules, and monitoring host or service uptime. Nmap uses raw IP packets in novel ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are offering, what operating systems (and OS versions) they are running, what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use,and dozens of other characteristics. It may be used to discover computers and services on a computer network, thus creating a "map" of the network.Nmap runs on most types of computers and both console and graphical versions are available. Nmap is free and open source. Can be used by beginners (-sT) or by pros alike (packet_trace). A very versatile tool, once you fully understand the results.

How To Save Battery On Android – tips & tricks

Android is a great OS in every sense, fully customizable, millions of free and paid apps, tons of launchers and availability of all the high-end games are some of its advantages. The only drawback you could find in Android is its battery consumption. If compared to the other operating systems, you could feel that the Android phones consume battery faster. So to solve this issue, we have some tips for saving battery on your Android phone.

1. Display Consumes the Largest Part

Your mobile screen consumes a lot more power than any other application/process. Don’t toggle the display again and again. Try to keep the display off when your battery is low, this will make it last longer.

2. Reduce Screen Brightness

As screen consumes a lot of power, you must keep the brightness to the least level.

3. Stop Wireless Communication

Turn on mobile data, WiFi, NFC, Bluetooth and GPS only when you need them. All of these consume a lot of power and should be kept off all the time.

4. Give Preference To WiFi

If you can have access to a WiFi network, then you must use it instead of mobile data. Mobile data consumes much more power than WiFi and hence should always be avoided.

5. Turn Off Auto Sync

Most applications you install sync files with their servers after every set interval. The syncing process should be run manually and for only the app you want to sync data for.

6. Use a Minimum Number of Widgets

Widgets use power to be live and to display the changes. They are always working in the background. You should not use many widgets together.

7.Don’t Use Live Wallpapers

Live wallpaper are very power greedy and drain your Android mobile’s battery very fast. You should turn them off when you want to squeeze some more time out of your battery, or better, don’t use them.

8. Kill Applications Manually or Using Some Task Killer Application

When you leave an application, it continues to run in the background. This is done to reduce the time it takes to start-up, and give you a better experience. But being in RAM they all consume battery. Either end them using your phones task manager or use some third-party application.

9. Use Black Background

If your phone has an AMOLED screen, then you must use some black image as a background. This will reduce the battery consumption for display manifolds. Also choose a dark theme if possible.

10.Setting Screen Timeout to the Least Value

Screen timeout is the duration after which your screen’s backlight goes off, when left untouched. Setting it to a lesser value will save battery of your Android phone.

11. Turn off Haptic Feedback

Haptic feedback is a phenomenon by which your phone gives a feedback in the form of vibration when you touch the screen. Though this is helpful while typing, but it consumes high resources. You should turn it off to save your phone’s battery.

12. Switch to Flight Mode

When in a flight, you should switch your mobile to flight mode. Since you have no network connectivity, your phone’s transmitter will keep trying to find a network. This will just drain battery and nothing else. So, switch to flight mode when on a plane. You can also turn it off if you don’t want to use it.

13. Activate The Power Saving Mode

You must activate power saving mode whenever you are not playing games or running some resource extensive app. The power saving mode by default limits the CPU usage, decreases the screen’s brightness, disables the data connection whenever the screen is off and turns off the haptic feedback. Precisely, this does most of the things you need to save battery of your Android phone.

14. Restrict Background Data

Many application like Gmail, Google Play Store and many others collect and send data to their servers in the background. This drains your battery at a very faster speed. To stop this you can restrict the data usage by enabling it from “Settings > Data Usage“, then click on options and select “Restrict background data“.

15. Don’t Install Resource Intensive Apps

There are many apps that use huge resources, you can figure them out by navigating to “Settings > Battery” on a samsung mobile. This will show you all the programs & Android services that are using up the battery. You can use this feature to monitor high battery drainer apps and then get rid of them.

16. Update Apps

App Developers are always working on their apps to make them better, faster, more interactive and make them use less resources. They always try to make them consume less battery power. So always keep your apps updated.

Nokia Phone a WiFi Hotspot With JoikuSpot

JoikuSpot is a free application for Nokia mobile phones that lets you share you mobile internet connection by making your Nokia mobile a WiFi Hotspot. The interface is quite simple and you don’t have to go through the hassle of dealing with many options.

Using JoikuSpot to Turn Your Nokia Phone into a Hotspot

Just install the application and press the “Start” button. Now it will ask for permissions to allow sharing your internet connection, and the internet access point you want to use. You can check the statistics and the amount of data transferred using this Hotspot.

The Difference Between the Lite and the Premium Version

JoikoSpot has both, a lite and a premium version. The light version allows you to set-up an open WiFi hotspot, i.e., you can not secure it with a password. Both the versions come in many languages and are compatible with most Nokia devices.

Auto Shutdown the PC After uTorrent Completes Downloading

If you download stuff using torrents then you would have faced a situation when your downloads were limited and you were not in a mood to let your laptop stay awake the whole night. This is the wastage of electricity and you must not do that. But if you shut your PC down and decide to continue the downloading process later, you may not get the right time soon.
What’s the Solution ?
Earlier I reviewed an application called Wise Auto Shutdown that automatically performs tasks like shutting down, standby, hibernate, etc., at the time you specify. You could use that application and tell it to shutdown when you think your downloading will complete. Since you are just guessing the time, it may/may not finish at that time. For this reason it is not a viable solution, but yes, it was up till now.
But, I recently found a feature in uTorrent that automatically shuts down your PC when all the download completes. Not just shutting down, it can close the uTorrent application, restart, hibernate and sleep your computer too.
The feature can be found in the top navigation of the application under “Options > Auto Shutdown“.
So, now you don’t need to have your laptop stay awake after the downloading is complete, it will shutdown automatically.

Disable Facebook’s Seen Feature With Facebook Unseen for Google Chrome

Facebook introduced a “seen” feature sometime back, that delivers the read report of the message(s) to the sender. This means when someone sends you a message, they will come to know whether and when you read the message. This feature is helpful for the sender but can be harmful and create problems for the receiver. To disable this feature and to hide the message read status, we have Facebook Unseen, a Google Chrome extension that don’t allow Facebook to know when you read messages.

Installing Facebook Unseen on Google Chrome

The extension is installed in the same way like any other Google Chrome extension. Open the extension page and click the “FREE” button. Once the application is downloaded and installed, you will see a new icon in the installed apps section at the top-right corner. You can click the icon to toggle Facebook Unseen On and Off.
The extension also has an options page but you will not need it. It provides options for some additional features, like it can hide from you when someone reads your message, the same way it hides from others when you read their messages. It also provides an important option that allows you to disable ads, which the extension adds to Facebook.

Convert Word Files to JPEG Format

Many people ask me if they can convert a word document to a JPEG file. I tell them the steps, but they find it really difficult and complicated to follow. So this tutorial will help you out if you want to convert any word document, be it doc or docx, to any image format.

Convert Word to JPEG

There are three ways of going about it. First is to use a Snipping tool, available in Windows Vista and later versions. Second is to use Paint, available in all the versions of Windows. The third one is the easiest and the cleanest method but requires OneNote, an application Microsoft launched in 2003 and is shipped with Microsoft Office.

Convert Using Snipping Tool

  1. Open the Word document you want to save in the JPEG format.
  2. Make the zoom percentage to 100%. This will make the image clear and readable.
  3. Open “Snipping tool“. Either type it in the search box in the “Start Menu” or navigate to “Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool”.

  4. Click “New” in the snipping tool and drag the rectangular box so that it covers the viewable part of the document.

  5. Then click on “Save Snip” and type in any name you want.
The steps 4-5 may be repeated in case your document is long. Then you may also need to club those images, which can be done using the “Paint” tool, by pasting one below the other in the same order as in the Word document.
TIP If you are not worried about the quality, then you can zoom out of the page, until it is completely visible, and then you can use the snipping tool. But make sure that the content is readable.

Converting Word to JPEG Using “Paint”

If you have Windows XP or earlier installed, then you will not find the “Snipping tool”. As an alternative, you can use “Paint”.
  1. Open the Word document and zoom it to 100%
  2. Now tap the “Print Screen” button on the keyboard, usually labelled as “PrntScr”. This will copy the entire screen’s screenshot on your clipboard.
  3. Now open “Paint” and select “Paste” from the menu. You can also use the “Ctrl+V” keyboard shortcut.
  4. Crop the picture and delete all the irrelevant area.
  5. Finally, save this file in JPEG format and give it any desired name.

Doc to JPEG Using OneNote

This is the simplest method of doing this, but involves an additional program, i.e., OneNote. Nowadays, OneNote is shipped along with Microsoft Office and you may have it installed on your PC. If you have it then convert Word files to JPEG the easiest way.
  1. Open the Word document you want to save as JPEG.
  2. Select “File > Print” or click the “Ctrl + P” keyboard shortcut. When the Print window opens, select “Send to OneNote” and click the “Print” button.

  3. Now OneNote will appear on screen. Select the location in OneNote. For our purpose you can save it in Quick Notes, because we will not need it in the future.

  4. Now you will see different images for all the pages you had in your document. Right click on all the images one by one and choose “Save As”.

  5. Give them any name and save them at your desired location.
